I keep a stop watch near me when I play EVE.
Why you ask?
Because many of the mechanics in EVE are based on time. Most importantly is the aggro timer.
Let me give you an example:
We have a fleet member one system away from the fleet in a drake playing with a megathron on the undock of a station. The goal is to get the mega to shoot so we can jump the fleet in and kill the mega before he can "de-aggro" and dock.
The Mega takes the bait and shoots the drake and I call for the fleet to jump, warp to our drake and shoot the mega.
As FC I will start the stopwatch the moment I hear "he's de-aggroing" and then I know how much longer we have to kill him before he docks and if necessary I will call for everyone to overload.
Another example is if a target Aggro's then logs off in space to escape. You now have 15 minutes from the time he aggro'd to get probes and locate his ship before it disappears.
Bottom Line:
If you know how much time you have, you can make better decisions and be more successful.
