Overloading Video Guide

"Give it some heat!"

I've found my self saying that many times in fleets. Maybe I'm the only FC that talks like that, I'm not sure. What I mean by "heat" is for the fleet to overload their guns.

Whether Solo or in Fleet, using your overload properly could easily mean the difference between winning and losing.

The reason is because it allows you to increase your effectiveness by 15% or more depending on what you're doing.

Most Guns and Missiles will get a 15% boost to Damage Output. Shield Boosters and Armor Repairs get a 10% boost and Microwarpdrives get a 50% bonus to speed!

Here's a secret that the Super PRO PVPers don't talk about: The secret to pulling off insane victories is often just a few percent.

The more effective your modules are the more likely you are to win your fights. Think of it as increasing your probability. Loading the dice.

Every little bit of extra performance, whether it's more damage output, better tank, or whatever, increases your probability of victory and loads the dice a little more in your favor.

This is why so many of the Super Elite PVPers use implants, drugs, command link bonus alts, etc. They know that to fight at a insane level they need to load their dice as much as possible.

This doesn't mean you can discount skill though, because a bad PVPer with every possible advantage will still make bad choices and perform badly. These things simply magnify the skills you do have.

Overloading can load your dice heavily and it doesn't cost you a billion ISK in implants.

In this Video Guide you will learn not just how to overload, but more importantly when to overload and how to get the biggest possible advantage from your overloading.

  • Dude, you're going to save me a ton of isk. I was one of the 'wait until I'm in trouble' people for overloading, time to take some risks! =)

  • Just a thought (not necessarily related to this video) what’s your view on using light jamming drones instead of light damage drones, are they of any use against frigates, or are frigs’ sensor strength too strong to be affected? In some of the vids (not sure which one) you’ve been jammed, and that has stopped your damage entirely…can’t remember if that was drones or a falcon, though.

    • Jamming drones are annoyingly effective and therefore useful.

It depends on the situation and ship but I have seen them turn fights around enough to say they are often a good idea.

But again depends on situation. I would not use them with a Taranis for example.

      • How about, say, an incursus? That would completely shut down their dps.

And I can't remember since I haven't played in so long, but do you have to have a target locked to order your drones to 'attack' (or jam, repair, etc.) or can you just select something on the overview and order them to do their thing?

      • I don't think I would use ECM drones on an Incursus either.

Drones can be set to aggressive so that they will engage without you locking. I'm not 100% sure of the mechanic there, but it's no sure thing.

And if you are going to go with ECM drones then use a full flight of 5... If you have a ship that carries more than that it's cool to carry different kinds but I don't see any reason to put out say 3 ecm and 2 damage drones.

        • Gotcha, thanks, will do. Annoyingly, the return of my computer has been delayed until Monday...AGAIN. Will have to wait a little more until I can try this out. That's quite obnoxious. I'll let you know how my adventures go!

          ...if I ever get back in-game :-P

          • The mechanic behind 'set aggressive' of drones is they will aggro on anything that aggroes you, or that you aggro. I -believe- you must have them out before either happens, though. So you can't drop them mid-fight and expect them to auto-aggro. Make sure to double check.

  • I would love to see some more caldari ships (crow, hawk, kestrel, hookbill, condor, tengu, drake) PLZ PLZ PLZ! Also im only at about 2.5million SP, and i'm training for overloading right now. Im deciding whether to train tech II weapons or get my tech II frigates. Could you make a video (aimed at new players) describing a so-called "order of importance" of skills for us new pvpers with so many training options, but no clue which will benefit us the most.

    • I will work on it... In fact I just bought 3 Crows to play with because they seem to be a safe option for solo PVP that is more survivable than say a Taranis.
