Small Gang PVP Flashback – 13 Usurper vs 100+ Brave

If you know much about EVE history you may remember when Brave (4000+ pilots) declared war on my small (~300) pilot alliance Usurper. Evidently some of our solo guys had killed large numbers of them in the pipes of Null Sec and in their home system of Barleguet and caused a lot of anger inside their alliance.

From Usurper's prospective they were just a group to go play with when we were bored.

To our surprise Brave declared total war on Usurper and stated that we must be exterminated and removed from syndicate. Internally they were going through the growing pains of realizing that a few low sec systems could not sustain a 4000 man alliance and as a result looked to moved into nearby Syndicate Null Sec for ratting and moon mining.

What they found was a whole new level of PVP they were not ready for.

As a result my alliance experienced the peak of our EVE lives. Nothing else would ever match the non stop fights and fun we had crushing Brave and forcing them to withdraw from Syndicate.

In the end Brave said "we didn't want that anyway" and moved to catch. Later saying that without Usurper to teach them the hard realities of high level PVP they would have never survived as long as they did in Catch.

Today Brave is facing a lot of internal drama and a bit of an identity crisis. As a once major player in EVE we can only wait to see if they reassert themselves.

But for us old Veterans at Usurper, we dream that they will once again try to exterminate us.

This Video is a recording from a Guardian's point of view. We knew that Brave had a 100+ man fleet active and we decided to bait them in a belt.

When they blobbed we went in with just 13 people with about 8 Armor Strategic Cruisers, a Dominix, and 3 Guardians (I may be off by 1 ship somewhere).

What follows is a battle where Brave refused to fully commit to any target and instead allowed us to slowly wear their massive fleet down.

  • Having Domi there to smartbomb drones of logistic was a good move. Was that neuting Domi (I saw a lot of cap transfer to it)?

    • @7 ..sure, logistic is hard and important job..but saying that the rest of the fleet is just doing: approach, follow and F1 is little on stupid side.
Using webs to hold dangerous ships at range, dropping neuts on important targets, positioning yourself so you can maximize your dps and reduce enemy dps, tackling most important ships without getting out of your dps range for primary, countering jamming ships and forcing them out of field, flying counter-support... etc..it is a lot of flying and thinking to do as dps ship pilot.
So I unless you fly for some very large alliance that has 80% of low skill pilots (talking of real fighting skills not skills that you need to train on EVE).... your statement is incorrect at best.

    • I often find flying Logistics to be more fun than DPS in a fleet. A well piloted logistics ship will have a bigger impact on the fight than a single DPS ship. This is because most fleets have many times more DPS ships than logistics. EX: 10 Armor Hacs and only 3 Guardians
